Phase I Application

Deadlines

For the December grant cycle, hard copy applications must be received no later than May 1, 4:30 p.m. (PT). For the June grant cycle, the deadline is no later than November 1, 4:30 p.m. (PT). If either date falls on a weekend, the deadline is extended to 4:30 p.m. (PT) on the following Monday. Deadlines are based on Pacific Time. We appreciate early submissions. Any hard copy Phase I applications received after the deadlines will not be considered.

 

Notification

Receipt of Phase I Applications will be acknowledged within four weeks. Completed applications are then carefully reviewed and the Foundation will notify those applicants that will be invited to proceed to Phase II. No inquiries regarding applications will be entertained in the interim.

Requirements

The Foundation will only consider applications that are complete and contain all the requirements listed below along with all the required forms and information listed on the Phase I Application.

All applicants must provide determination letters from the Internal Revenue Service that verify 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status and classification as a public charity described under section 509(a)(1) or 509(a)(2) or 170(b). Organizations located in the State of California must also provide determination letters from the California State Franchise Tax Board verifying 23701(d) tax exempt status.

All applicants must provide a copy of the organization’s current full, certified, audited financial statements prepared on an annual basis in conformity with generally accepted accounting principles. An accountant’s review or compilation does not suffice. If in existence less than five years, the organization must provide two consecutive full, certified, audited financial statements prepared on an annual basis.

All tax exempt documentation and audited financial statements must be in the same, current and full name of the qualifying organization.
